FoodBridge - Axel Johnson's platform for investments in early-stage foodtech companies – invested in another company this fall. The name of the company is The Mediterranean Food Lab (MFL) and they develop pioneering flavour ingredients for meat substitutes and meat-flavoured products through fermentation.
FoodBridge was launched in the spring of 2022 with the aim of promoting collaboration and innovation across the entire value chain, and to accelerate sustainable change in our food system. An important part of FoodBridge is early investments in ideas and companies with the potential to create positive change. In 2022, FoodBridge invested in Petgood, and in the spring of 2023, they made an investment in the software company Improvin’. This fall, they made a third investment in the Mediterranean Food Lab (MFL)."
MFL is a flavour company that, through advanced fermentation technology "Solid State Fermentation," develops unique flavours and ingredients that are currently missing on the market. MFL focuses on ingredient development that can replace animal products, aiming to improve the taste of these to increase growth and demand within the plant-based segment.
Sofie Borg, Project Manager FoodBridge:
“We are excited to be part of MFL’s journey ahead. We know that taste and texture are some of the most important factors for driving change towards more sustainable and plant-based consumption. That is why we see this investment as especially important."
MFL was founded in 2019 by B.Z Goldberg and Yair Yosefi. Today, they are a team of 16 people with expertise ranging from Michelin chefs to food scientists, microbiologists, and biotechnology experts. The vision is to become one of the leading flavour houses globally and to revolutionize the food industry.
B.Z. Goldberg, CEO och founder The Mediterranean Food Lab:
“ The Mediterranean Food Lab has developed a breakthrough technology with immense potential to transform the food industry. We are excited to partner with Re:food, Peakbridge, Arancia TAG, and FoodBridge, in our drive to bring our products to the market.”
MFL's investment round is led by Gullspång Re:food, along with Peakbridge, Ariancia International and FoodBridge.
